I don't believe in GAY marriage, period. Infact I don't believe in HETEROSEXUAL marriage either.Fuck,I don't even believe in MARRIAGE alone, the concept of marriage, why people get married, everything to do with marriage, the dress (dresses in general though), the silly traditions, the holier than thou attitude that the married posses and the deluded idea of marriage that the majority of people have.. that is until they get married..yes I think its all silly and pathetic but you know having said that, I dont mind the reception, the nice cake and you know the whole watching brides scatter over who gets to catch the flower part because that shits funny especially to the blokes standing on the side and chuckling over how mindless those women are and you know, how ultimately its down to them, they can control marriage fate (ironic really) but that woman's fate is controlled by forces of gravity, the position which the weddeees extended arms lands on ,just how desperate those other women really are and well its up to the man really.
Now onto why I don't believe in GAY marriage. Because well you see...last I checked was that Australia is a secular country..secular meaning seperation of state and religion and last I check was that marriage is a religious concept and so just according to the logic here, marriage doesn't belong and should not be recognised legally.. now forget the above ramble about my personal opinion on the concept of marriage and lets look at this urgent need to attain it by the gay and lesbian community. Its ridiculis but I have actually heard being reitterated quite a lot and chanted in some of the rallies as 'marriage being a fundemental human right'..ahhh right, can someone please explain this? To me, what qualifies or the criteria that a particular right must contain inorder for it be recognised as being 'fundmental' is the fact that can not be comprimised, not at all, see access to water is a 'fundemental' human right, access to security is a 'fundemental human right' , but how is suddenly my ability to be recognised as one infront of a religion that refuses to acknowledge my existance a 'fundemental human right'? Marriage is not a neccessity. A 'fundemental human right' is something that can not be forgone and definitly is not optional. So I suppose what I'm trying to get at, is that I believe the whole concept of having marriage being recognised as a legal institution where two helpless soul wed should be scrapped, yes SCRAPPED,destroyed, removed, KILLED and instead Civil agreements should be implemeneted. Civil agreements for all, straight, gay, queer, blue, red, everything. I dont want to be tolerated and legitimised by having one in place in addition to marriage which only the straight can be part of, I want to be accepted. If a couple, straight or gay decide that they want to be recognised by the law as being together, than this should be done in the form of a civil agreement. Having said that, if a civil agreemenets was to be put in place,it should not have ANY financial adventages over say a de fecto relationship. This is why I don't agree with marriage having significance in the Law system; one: discriminates against those who do not agree with the concept and adventages those that do with the financial incentives and two: reinfornces an ideology that well is fundementally flawd and serves only to establish male dominance and perpetuates gender inequality. When I say this,I am not speaking of the relationship of those who chose to get married, I am merely attacking marriage itself and what the idea of marriage plus its historical context.
Now, there has been a decreased push for marriage (actually, lets quote statistics, 35% of australians identify with a religion with 5% regularly attending church) these days with numbers actually being reported to following to the lowest that they've ever been which means that the religious significance that marriage used to have, well lets just say does not constitute the motive for the majority of those who do decide to get married. In addition to that those in the Gay and Lesbian community who are pushing for this are mainly doing it due to the discriminatory nature of the civil agreements and the financial benefits that are associated with marriage that many are denied from accessing simply because they're gay. While I understand, that some would want marriage because of it religious significane,it can be said comofortably that it is not the collective's main concern so in having said that, why is it tha we waste valuable energy and resource into wanting to assert an and further anchor an institution which is already falling out of favour and is flawd by nature? Why not direct those resources into further decreasing the relative importance of marriage and stressing the need for civil agreements to be implented and applied to the wider heterosexual comunity? Would it not be more beneficial in the long run, in terms of gay rights and intiating social change? By rallying for gay marriage, the gay and lesbin community is narrowing its focus, and by narrowing their focus, they risk causing the movement to come to a hault. Let me explain what I mean. What happens after we achieve gay marriage? Because the movement has focused on rallying for such a specific cause, what are we going to rally for next? The issue of marriage has been adopted as the community's main cause, anything that comes after will no doubt be undermined and made to look as relatively unimportant, motivation is lost, the movement slowly loses momentum and suddenly it stagnates..why? because people begin to live in a deluded state of equality, because now that gay marriage is legal recognised, we're going to be told time after time that we're equal that we have nothing to fight for, that we're pulling at straws..sounds familiar? yes, the woman's movement here comes your friend, the gay rights movement! May you two rest in peace.
I better finish this up because this is longer than I expected but something that a friend bought up was..'what about those religious gay and lesbians who do believe in God and want to be legally wed infront of him?" Well forcing a church to preform gay marriage, does not neccerily mean it will. You can go to a priest and ask them to preform the service but seeing as the book right infront of him,his bible states clearly that what he's doing is against God's will, than do you think that simply because it is mentioned in the law he will abide by it? How many will be willing to reconcile God's law with that of that land's? You'll be met with opposition regardless, in order for change to be substantial,it must start within. The structure of the church must change and for that to be happen, it must be initiated from with in. When it comes to religious matter, imposed change only gets so far. As for those from the heterosexual community who do want to get married, then let them get married, let them have a religion celebration but let that union only be recognised in the law once they've signed a civil union agreement.
thats it really, excuse the poor grammar, structure, everything, however a warning was given beforehand :)
